The Bible Story Scarf Tool

What is the Bible Storytelling Scarf?

A First Century Discipling and Church Planting Tool Modeled by Jesus

The Bible Storytelling Scarf is a strategic tool where the Gospel story is illustrated on 42 vividly colored picture squares. Each square depicts a Bible story from Creation to Christ, that is used by a storyteller to share the Gospel with men and women who are non-reading learners or who cannot read or write. When these truths are shared with them in their own heart language, it makes all the difference in the world.

The scarf comes with a page of scripture references that corresponds with each of the squares on the cloth.

Training and training materials, developed by Scriptures-in-Use organization, are free for leaders and lay persons. They teach easy-to-memorize, 4-6 minute story scripts plus questions that help the storyteller generate feedback and teach Biblical truths to their audience.

Through oral bible stories that are shared, memorized, and dialoged in their own mother tongue, the Bible truth is planted deep in their hearts. Soon these transformed men and women share these stories with others, gathering in homes to tell Gospel stories - just like Jesus and His disciples did.

With the help of local translation efforts and a dedication for word for word accuracy to preserve the Word of God, these indigenous men and women are proclaiming the gospel of Christ in a way that transcends cultural and linguistic barriers, empowering organic Gospel movements to spread in their own communities.

Advantages of Using the Story Scarf Tool
  • Designed to Invite Dialogue: It can be worn by women or can be hung on walls at home to invite questions about the pictures that lead to opportunities to share the Gospel story.
  • Portable: Stories can be shared with family and friends at the water well, while working in the factories and fields, or while cooking at the fire pit. It's a true church without walls.
  • Safe in Hostile Areas: "Persecution is increasing... When people do open air preaching or use tracts they can face persecution. Even carrying or giving out Christian materials can get people arrested. When we tell stories, no one can say anything. I tell you that storytelling is the best and safest way for reaching our country. One day storytelling will be the only way for the church to sustain and multiply here.” (Field Stories, Scriptures-In-Use)
  • Proven and Well-Accepted:  Instructors use a widely accepted, proven training program, developed by Scriptures-In-Use, (SIU) that has been in practice for 25 years. It provides native grassroots workers with a systematic strategy to reach oral learners and the illiterate.
How You Can Get Involved
Pastors Saha and Anju, founders of KGM India, have been leaders in this work in India for over a decade, training OVER 2,000 disciples in the oral arts of sharing the Gospel. Many KGM leaders and believers are already trained in Bible Storytelling, but lack access to the Story Scarf Tool. Others are being trained right now and will need the tool when they graduate.

Where Does My Money Go?
Your gift of ANY amount goes directly to the mission field bringing tools and training in Jesus' name to equip church leaders and believers to reach out to friends and neighbors who have never heard of Jesus.

How Much Should I Give?
$15 empowers one storyteller with training and a Bible Story Scarf but it doesn’t matter how much you can give. It’s all about what God can accomplish through us when we work together. KGM partners choose the amount God lays on their heart and the funds are pooled. Then they are sent to Kerusomen Foundation India (KFI) regularly, to replenish the Story Scarf ministry fund. Finally, KFI conducts training classes and graduates receive a Bible Story Scarf.

The Difference You Make

Your gift empowers pastor-missionaries and believers to boldly tell God’s story to a forgotten audience: moms, dads, and children in India who will NEVER discover Jesus through a printed page or a Bible tract.

When you're an active part of this amazing ministry that’s turning defeated, marginalized, semi-literate believers - into powerful disciples and evangelists - you can know, you’re making a real difference. You can know, you’ve truly impacted the lives - of an individual; of a family; and of a community. And, that the goal of training thousands of grassroots missionaries, in India, is happening - because of generous people like yourself.
